c1880 Franz Bergmann figure cold cast of a Sudanese Beja tribesman - Battle of Omdurman period (1898). In 1860 Franz Bergman opened a small foundry in Vienna, Austria and in 1900 his son Franz Xavier Bergman opened a new factory. They produced numerous patinated and cold-painted bronze oriental, erotic and animal figures, the latter often humanised or whimsical, humorous objects d'art.
