British Crimea Medal (1854):
Design: 36mm silver featuring the diademed head of Queen Victoria on the obverse with "VICTORIA REGINA" and "1854". The reverse shows a standing Roman warrior receiving a laurel crown from a flying figure of Victory, with "CRIMEA" written vertically on the left.
Suspension & Clasps: Features a unique floriated swivelling suspender and ornate oak-leaf-and-acorn bars (such as Alma, Balaklava, Inkermann, and Sebastopol).
Naming: Most were issued unnamed from the Mint, though recipients frequently had them officially impressed or privately engraved along the rim.
Turkish Crimea Medal (1855–1856):
Design: Issued by the Ottoman Empire to allied forces.
Variations: Due to a loss of a shipment at sea, some British troops received the Sardinian issue instead of the British-issued variant. They were usually privately named or engraved to match the recipient's British medal.
A lovely and rare original grouping.
